Artist Statement

Hi, and welcome to my website. My name is Connie Publicover and my work with water drop photography reveals the beauty I have found and continue to find in a drop of water. One can hardly imagine the beauty and complexity that can be held within a tiny drop of water. I find the ever changing qualities of this subject amazing and challanging to capture. To make things even more difficult for myself I choose to work with moving water, encapsulating refractions and reflections as the drop falls.

Artist Biography

I was born and grew up and still live in Nova Scotia with my husband of 48 yrs. Photography came into my life as a result of illness that kept me shut in a few years back. I am mostly self taught and to the best of my knowledge I was one of the first photographers to embrace working with refractions in free falling water drops. Truth be told my very first capture of a free falling water drop refraction was totally by accident but loving a good challenge I spent the next 2-3 years working on a technique and set up to capture the elusive water drop that proved to be a true labor of love for me and helped me to regain my health and focus in life .

I still get excited when my work is admired by talented photographers and artists I have met, they truly fuel my creative side to keep trying to capture the perfect drop .

Seven of the water drops images I created between 2008 - 2016 that were displayed in Times Square, New York City, as Kodak’s Photo of the Day, chosen from worldwide submissions. I feel very fortunate that my work is internationally known and my story on how and why the water drop became such a big part of my life was featured in the February 2012 issue of Saltscapes Magazine.

I continue to create new techniques to showcase the amazing qualities that I find in a single drop of water and I have also started working with mirrored images but my true love will always be the water drop, I love the challenge of a water drop. My most recent body of work is my Meditation Art. I created a Meditation Art line because I received so many comments on the meditative qualities to the mirrored images in the “ Beyond First Impressions” exhibit that featured mirrored images of the four seasons. I do love a good challenge and I am very happy with the response the images have gotten.
